After a lot of your feedback and a lot of our work, we are proud to present GPS Kit version 2.0! The most exciting thing about this release is the highly-requested topo maps feature. Thanks to Google, we were able to get maps right inside of GPS Kit, complete with tracks and waypoints.

We made another video highlighting these features and you can see it in the Guide area. Version 2 should be out in within a week or so as a free update.

The only downside to having maps right in the app is that they consume a lot of memory-- and the iPhone doesn’t like memory hogs. In fact, the app will just quit if the memory is full. So ye stand warned...

However, it is not the end of the world... there are a couple things you can do to minimize your memory usage.

1) if you are consistently having apps (anyone’s for that matter) quit on you, restart your phone. This will dump loaded email attachments and Safari pages that consume valuable memory.

2) While in GPS Kit, keep map browsing to a minimum. If you zoom out to the whole world and back in again, chances are you are filling up your memory.
